A School Bus Service

Forge Valley’s Governing Body has reached an agreement with the provider of the Bright Bus service that operates in Sheffield, to run a dedicated school bus service from the outer reaches of our catchment area.

The service will initially operate for three months to see if it is a viable service.  The route has now been finalised, and details of the timetable can be found by clicking here. Following fare increases in April 2011 there will be a standard 50 pence fare per journey. We have been advised that this will increase to 60 pence in April 2012.

This has been the result of many months of negotiations between various members of the Governing Body and the Proposing Group, and local bus service providers. We hope that this goes to show that we, like all our parents and carers, take great responsibility in ensuring our students have a choice in how they wish to travel safely to school.

Our Travel Policy

As parents, carers, teachers and governors we share one common goal, to change the perception that the car is the only means of transport to our new school. We want our students and staff to consider other methods of transport. Healthier for them, and environmentally beneficial for the rest of our community.

We have been looking at various schemes in conjunction with several other local community groups. We would like to see more of our users walking, cycling and using public transport. We have also been working with the local authority to improve pedestrian routes to the Wood Lane site.

With assistance from cycling experts, we are continuing to look at ways to ensure that students, staff and members of the community who wish to cycle can do so safely. This will not just be of benefit to the school, but the wider local community. Our local authority has already stated that it wishes to reduce traffic congestion in this city, we believe that by working together in providing designated cycling facilities, our roads can become more accessible to those who wish to pursue a healthier, greener lifestyle.

Associated Highway Proposals

As a condition of granting Planning Consent for Forge Valley, Sheffield City Council attached a number of conditions some of which relate to alterations to the local highway. Following consultation in the Malin Bridge area, the Council’s Cabinet Highways Committee approved a number these changes on the 9 September 2010.

Further measures were also identified in the wider area and a further round of consultation within these areas has been completed. These include Stannington Road, Wood Lane, Rivelin Valley Road, Walkley Lane and Walkley Road. These proposals were approved on the 10 March 2011 by the Cabinet Highways Committee.

Full details of all the proposals can be found on the Council’s website by clicking here. Please contact the Council directly and not the school with your comments.
