Pastoral Systems for Forge Valley
Do you want to take an active role in shaping your child’s future?
Will your child
be a student at Forge Valley Community School?
Do you want the very best quality and standards
in this ‘state of the art’ school?
If the answer is yes to any of these questions then please join us in shaping the
future of education in this area.
We intend to set up a working group to shape and influence the Pastoral Systems in Forge
Valley Community School. We are looking for parents who wish to contribute to the development
of the very best systems. If you are interested in being part of this exciting development
please contact either Alison Inkson or Beryl Harlow via the following email addresses
for further information.

Both Myers Grove and Wisewood have had positive grades and comments about Pastoral
Care but we are keen that systems at Forge Valley Community School are cutting edge
and agreed by all parties including parents. A 'working together' group for pastoral
issues, coordinated by Alison Inkson and Beryl Harlow, has led discussion groups
which have included students and staff from both Wisewood and Myers Grove. These
have critiqued current practice and the working group has begun to review and tweak
current practice.
We would like honest feedback about school systems from our parents
especially in terms of shaping policy an improving communication between all stakeholders. We
would like to involve Y5/Y6 parents at our primary schools and parents from Myers
Grove and Wisewood.
What does 'Pastoral Care' mean?
Pastoral care is an all encompassing
term that involves the support of all students to remove any barriers to learning. It
supports the emotional well being of all students and ensures that all students progress
and achieve. It is also about rewards and sanctions and we would like to set up acceptable
systems approved by all stakeholders and feel that parental involvement is crucial
for the success of Forge Valley.
The level of pastoral intervention depends on personal
need and in it's more extreme sense will involve safeguarding and high level intervention
from outside agencies.
How would parents be involved?
We would like to hold some meetings
to glean parent's feelings about both schools. The views of Y5 and Y6 parents are
also welcome as you may have different perspectives. Alison Inkson and Beryl Harlow
have already researched innovative systems in other successful schools and we feel
it would be useful for parents to be aware of these new developments, to consider
the cost of such initiatives and to take an active role in deciding the reward and
sanction systems in Forge Valley.
